Learning Game Strategy

The Pandora soft skill learning philosophy was built on the foundation of story. A well-crafted story could be employed to provoke emotions. Emotions engage attention and provoke empathy, which can lead to behavioral change.

Designing a learning experience was an unfamiliar concept for many instructional designers and writers used to developing procedure-based instruction. To help with the process, I designed a series of cards that encapsulate concepts important to structuring the content, the methods and the qualities needed to outline a “storied learning experience.”

The cards would be used in a process analogous to how a “dungeon master” leads a card-based role-playing game. Know the rules, make failures more fun than successes. Keep things balanced for all players. Keep the narrative moving and the world rich with details to maintain interest.
