XR Production Startup

Its everyone’s first time going into production on an XR project. What are some ways we reduce risk and friction?

  • We standardized on tools, versions, processes and hardware.
  • We purchased everything before project start
  • We pre-purchased access to an asset library
  • We awarded the development staffing to a contract firm we work with already pretty extensively.
  • We identified key milestones and assigned dates to them before starting.
  • We have a decent internet connection between US and offshore.
  • We have specified who is responsible for what.

Remaining Risks:

  • I did not have an opportunity to interview or see the portfolio of the team, including leads.
  • All of the aspects relating to culture, terminology, attitudes annd motivations are to be worked out while in progress.
  • The version control tool we decided to use is unfamiliar
  • Those of us working inside the enterprise firewall are having great difficulty getting the development sofware installed in spite of weeks of preparation during purchasing and security analysis.
  • There is an inherent lag involved with being 9-1/2 hours behind the offshore team.

The team structure at the beginning of the project. The colors indicate affinities between stakeholders in the internal team and contributors on the contractor side.
